ABSTRACT
The genres of popular short poems or signature poems and classic and modern fables share the same origin: the wisdom of the people who compose them. Some examples of these literary genres and ways in which they could be implemented in lessons of Spanish as a foreign language will be discussed: lexical, grammar, communicative, philosophical, pedagogical as well as historical and cultural levels. The target CEFR levels at which this approach could give rise to comments and discussions in the MFL classroom would be B1 to C2, from teenagers to older pupils. Through these short and relatively simple texts, learners will be able to know the universe of Spanish language, culture and mentality and they can also offer an opportunity for discussion of universal values in the target language.
